Does Noturna work without an API key?
Yes. Recording, live transcription and your notes library work entirely in the browser with no key and no account. An AI provider key only adds summaries, insight prompts and “ask your notes” — and you can point it at a local model instead.
Where is my audio actually stored?
On your device. Audio is captured in the browser, transcripts and notes are saved to local storage, and nothing is uploaded unless you explicitly send a recording to a provider you configured. Noturna has no analytics and no server-side storage.
Which browsers are supported?
Chrome and Edge give the full experience including live transcription and recording. Safari supports recording with partial transcript support. Firefox records audio but can’t transcribe live — you can still send the audio to a Whisper-compatible endpoint.
Is there a subscription?
No. Noturna Pro is a single payment for lifetime access. If you use your own AI provider you pay that provider directly for usage — usually a fraction of a penny per note.
Can I run it on my own machine, or sell it?
Yes. The whole thing is build-free HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no
dependencies — host it anywhere static, wrap it in Capacitor for iOS and
Android, or white-label it. See docs/03-SELL-IT-PLAYBOOK.md for
the licensing, App Store and compliance notes.
What happens to my notes if I clear my browser?
They go with it — so export regularly. Settings → Data exports everything as JSON, and you can import it back on any machine.
